No fewer than 20 people have been reportedly killed by gunmen in several communities in Niger state and scores in Kebbi.
According to Reuters, Shiroro LGA was the site of the Niger state attack. Residents reported that the attackers overpowered security guards and destroyed homes for hours.
Numerous villagers reportedly sought refuge in neighbouring towns like Gwada, Zumba, and Galadima Kogo.

Gunmen attacked the villages of Bagna and Erena on Tuesday, according to Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Command’s public relations officer.
The statement stated that a driver and two community guards were slain, while others were injured.
KEBBI ATTACK
Similar attack was launched in Kebbi areas by suspected bandits, who killed dozens of people and set homes on fire.
Sources were informed by a clergyman that the attacks took place in Debbe, Shabanda, and neighbouring communities.

The Kebbi police spokesperson, Bashir Usman, told TheCable that the number of casualties is still unknown but confirmed the development.
“At about 2230hrs, suspected Mamudawa terrorist elements attacked the villages, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property,” Usman said.
“Police tactical teams from Illo Division swiftly responded, intercepted the attackers, neutralised two of them, and recovered a Niger Republic Army uniform as well as Immigration uniforms.

“While reports are still being verified, the command cannot at this time confirm the casualty figures being circulated. However, we deeply sympathise with the affected communities.”
According to Usman, additional security personnel have been stationed in the region to stop further attacks.
“Security personnel have been reinforced and are actively on ground to forestall further attacks,” he added.
“Members of the public are urged to remain calm as more details will be communicated in due course.”
