Plateau Under Siege As Gunmen Launch Fresh Deadly Attack, Kill 8

Gunmen on Thursday night launched fresh attack on Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least eight persons.

Sources gathered that most of the victims were members of the same family.

Those who lost their lives include; Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Mr Luck Titus Dakus, Mr Habila Istifanu Dakus, Mr Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Mrs Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus and Mr Innocent Barnabas Makwin.

The Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos LGA, Kefas Mallai, verified the killings to The PUNCH in Jos on Friday.

He disclosed that the incident occurred around 11pm when the attackers invaded the community and opened fire on residents.

Sources also gathered that three other persons were injured while some community members are still missing.

Mallai said: “There was an attack last night at Mbwelle village. The village is very close to Bokkos town. So far eight persons have been confirmed dead this morning.

“The people are saying they want to protest because the security men have not protected them and the attack lasted for hours and yet, no presence of security to repel the assailants until those people finished and left. No trace.”

He added: “The attack lasted for several hours with no visible security presence to repel the attackers.”

This attack comes amid a number of attacks launched on different communities in Plateau state, spreading fear and panic.

The repeated attacks has raised questions about security in the state despite president Tinubu’s visit to the state.

Meanwhile, the govt has reassured Nigerians and the international community that the country remains safe for residents and visitors.

This comes as the United States ordered the evacuation of non-emergency staff and their families from its embassy in Abuja.

While the US cited security concerns across 23 states, the Federal Government, on Thursday, insisted that Nigeria continues to maintain a stable security environment and urged citizens to remain calm.
