earThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general election.
This comes only days after INEC announced a suspension in the voter revalidation process.

The decision was reached at a meeting between the commission and resident electoral commissioners (RECs).
This was disclosed in a statement released by Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s national commissioner and chairman of the information committee.
The statement reads “Following deliberations, the commission resolved to postpone the exercise until after the 2027 General Election,”
Haruna also stated that the process is aimed at update and validate current records in order to increase the legitimacy of the nation’s voter registration.

Furthermore, he noted that registered voters would have the chance to verify and update their personal information as needed during the exercise.
The commissioner said, “INEC remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections.”

The revalidation was earlier scheduled to begin on April 13 ahead of the 2027 elections.
But, on April 5, the commission asked all RECs to suspend publicity for the planned exercise pending further directives.
