U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed the United States Navy to begin a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as negotiations with with Iran fails.
Trump stated on Sunday that “most points were agreed to” during the negotiations in Islamabad, but he asserted Tehran was unwavering in its nuclear aspirations.
Taking to his Truth Social platform, he wrote, “Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!”
According to previous reports, US Vice President JD Vance left Pakistan after meeting with an Iranian group headed by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, but negotiations concluded without a resolution.
The meeting marked the highest-level engagement between both countries since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
“We leave here with a very simple proposal, a method of understanding that is our final and best offer. We’ll see if the Iranians accept it,” Vance told reporters.
President Trump slammed Iran in different post for not reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital conduit that transports roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil.
“They say they put mines in the water, even though all of their Navy, and most of their ‘mine droppers,’ have been completely blown up. They may have done so, but what ship owner would want to take the chance?” Trump said.
The route has remained shut for weeks following a series of missiles launched by the United States and Israel against Iran more than six weeks ago.
