At least nine people have been reportedly killed at Ankpali Edikwu ward of Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was discovered that the village was attacked by suspected herdsmen on Sunday night.
In a phone interview with journalists, community leader Bernard Ekah said the attackers entered the area and began shooting at people, killing nine.

Ekah added that the unprovoked attack has forced many residents to flee their homes out of fear of another assault.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mister Tersoo Kula, Governor Hyacinth Alia denounced the attack but did not reveal the number of casualties.
Alia also gave security forces instructions to expel outlaws from the state’s woodlands right away.

“He noted that these criminal elements have exploited forested areas as operational bases to launch attacks, and must be flushed out without delay,” the statement partly read.
