Mr. Meseko affirmed that all prospective party members nationwide are still able to submit Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

He also clarified that the modifications were required to guarantee complete adherence to the requirements set forth by INEC, the 2026 Electoral Act, and the modified Constitution.

In compliance with established electoral laws, he continued, the updated schedule had been properly communicated to INEC.

The schedule states that nomination form sales will start on Saturday, April 25 and conclude on Saturday, May 2.

According to Mr. Meseko, Monday, May 4th has been set as the deadline for submitting full nomination forms.

He stated that the party will screen all candidates, from the House of Assembly to the presidential level, between May 5 and May 9.

The presidential screening is set for Saturday, May 9. All category results will be released on May 11.

Backstory…

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressive Congress, has set the price of its 2027 presidential nomination form at N100 million.

The amount is about twice the total amount of money a president is legally entitled to for a four-year term. Additionally, it is more than 1,000 times the N77,000 monthly minimum salary in Nigeria.

Following this, Nigerians have asked pointed questions in response to the announcement. How is it possible for a party to invite individuals to apply for a job that pays more than the salary? Does this kind of setup encourage corruption and illicit revenue to close the gap?
