President Trump and First Lady Melania were successfully evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday following an attempted attack by a gunman.

Officials disclosed that the gunman rushed to Secret Service checkpoint inside the Washington Hilton.

Law authorities say that at around 8:36 p.m., a lone suspect with a shotgun, a revolver, and several knives stormed into the hotel lobby area and tried to get past a Secret Service checkpoint.

However,  Agents from the Secret Service quickly apprehended him, and gunfire was exchanged.

Officials said at a late-night press briefing that the suspect had likely been a guest at the Washington Hilton, where the incident occurred.

Authorities have transported the suspect to a local hospital for evaluation, as he was not hit by gunfire. However, during the exchange, a Secret Service officer sustained a gunshot wound but survived because of his protective gear.

Meanwhile, witnesses  at the event confirmed hearing five to eight shots as visible panic spread through the ballroom during the scare.

Later that day, Donald Trump left the hospital after receiving treatment. Trump made his first public appearance 2 days after, at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, wearing an ear bandage.
