Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Congress (PDP).

At a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, Mohammed declared his intention to become a member of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

During the meeting, the Bauchi governor was presented with an APM membership card, constitution, and flag.

According to the governor of Bauchi, the APM offers itself as a workable platform free from legal disputes so that he and his supporters can carry on serving the people.

Governor Bala Mohammed also expressed grateful to the PDP for giving him a platform to help the people.

He said, “At this point, I wish to acknowledge and appreciate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the important role it has played in our collective political journey.”

“It has been a platform through which we have served, grown, and contributed meaningfully to the development of our state and dear nation.

“We remain grateful for this history and opportunity.

“After extensive and wide consultations, we have taken a firm and strategic decision to join APM.”

BACKSTORY…

After the PDP’s leadership crisis, the Bauchi governor’s public statement ended rumours about his political future.

There were reports that Governor Bala Mohammed would join the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, the State APC did not accept the governor.

APC

Following disagreement over the suggested power-sharing arrangement, the PDP Bauchi state chapter declared on April 18 that it had terminated negotiations with the APC on potential defections.

The Bauchi PDP chairman, Sama’ila Burga, had stated that the party and the governor of Bauchi were looking at alternative political choices.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State then declared himself as a “freelance politician” with no direct ties to any political party.

Governor Bala made the announcement while hosting a meeting with chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, and stakeholders from the South-East in Bauchi.
