A legislative consultant and public policy analyst, Chibuzo Okereke, has stated that the political moves of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde are more about strengthening political influence than pursuing the presidency.

Okereke made the remarks on Friday while speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s programme, “Prime Time.”

According to him, Governor Makinde is currently facing significant political pressure following the outcome of the 2023 elections, where the Peoples Democratic Party lost all senatorial seats in Oyo State despite retaining the governorship position.

He noted that the development came after the G5 alliance, which played a major role in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu.

Okereke said that although Makinde has the constitutional right and qualifications to contest for the presidency, his current political activities appear to be more strategic than personal.

According to him, the governor is focused on building momentum and consolidating support ahead of the emergence of a possible successor.

He described the move as a form of political strategy, stressing that Makinde’s actions may not necessarily indicate a serious presidential ambition but rather an effort to strengthen his political structure and influence.
