Three members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The APC defections occurred shortly after the National Assembly resumed plenary following the Sallah recess.
Among those who left the APC was Rabilu Bala, representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, who officially joined the PRP.
Reading Bala’s letter during plenary, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, said the lawmaker cited ongoing internal crises within the APC and his desire to better serve his constituents through another political platform as reasons for his decision.
Similarly, Abubakar Zango, representing Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, also announced his resignation from the APC and his defection to the ADC.
In his letter, Zango said his decision was based on his conscience and what he described as the overall interest of the country. He also pledged to continue carrying out his legislative duties in line with democratic values.
Also, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, who represents Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, defected from the APC to the ADC.
