Kwankwaso

NDC accuses Kwankwaso of taking over party structure.

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has been accused of taking over the party’s structure in the North West.

In a joint statement, NDC’s Northwest Vice Chairman, Mohammed Rabiu Serina, and the Kano State Chairman, Hussaini Isa Mariga, alleged that Kwankwaso was sidelining non-Kwankwasiyya members from contesting elections under the party’s platform.

They described themselves as founding members of the party, saying they were appointed by the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, before its official registration, and later confirmed in their positions through congresses and the national convention.

According to them, they played key roles in establishing the party’s structures across Kano State and the entire Northwest before Kwankwaso and his supporters joined the party.

They further claimed that tensions started when Kwankwaso attempted to gain full control of the party structure in Kano during the state congresses.

They said the matter was later resolved through the intervention of Seriake Dickson, who reportedly mediated an agreement giving Kwankwaso’s camp 60 percent control of the Kano party structure, while the original leadership retained 40 percent.
