The Federal High Court in Jalingo, Taraba State, has adjourned hearing on a suit challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship primary election in the state until July 1, 2026.
The case was instituted by an APC chairmanship aspirant, Abdulhadi Lau, who is contesting the conduct and outcome of the party’s primary election.
Lau is asking the court to void the exercise, alleging that he was unlawfully excluded from the process despite purchasing nomination forms and fulfilling all requirements to contest.

He maintained that he completed all necessary procedures and was qualified to participate in the primary but was denied access without any justification.
According to him, his exclusion violated his constitutional rights and undermined internal democracy within the party.
Through his legal counsel, Lau urged the court to intervene, arguing that allowing such actions to stand could set a harmful precedent for Nigeria’s democratic system.
He also called on the judiciary to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, stressing that the exclusion of eligible aspirants from party primaries threatens democratic governance.
During Monday’s sitting, lawyers informed the court that the defendants had yet to file their defence, prompting Justice Salisu to adjourn the case to July 1 for definite hearing.
The matter is expected to proceed on the adjourned date as the legal dispute over the APC chairmanship primary in Taraba State continues.
