Armed members of the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group on Sunday stormed several communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, openly spreading extremist ideology and threating residents with violent attacks if they refused to embrace their teachings.
According to findings by SaharaReporters, dozens of the terrorists stormed the communities on motorcycles at about 4pm, with sophisticated moving unhindered from one settlement to another.
A source said, “They gathered some community leaders and warned them to accept their ideology. They said any community that refuses to cooperate would be attacked.”
Despite many alerts to authorities, residents voiced concerns that the terrorists continued to operate freely for almost two hours without any action from security forces.
Numerous sources claim that thousands of locals gathered around the armed men as they publicly exhibited their firearms in marketplaces and other popular areas.
As of the time of report, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, did not respond to calls or WhatsApp messages seeking comment on the findings.
