The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has fully dismissed Peter Obi’s allegations of threats, stating that no one wants the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate to die.
Umahi added that Obi will remain alive to run for president in 2027 and lose once again.
Sources reports that the minister spoke on Friday while inspecting federal road construction in Ebonyi State.
Recall that on Wednesday, Obi had voiced concerns about the nation’s political situation and claimed he received threats due to his criticism of the federal government.
‘NOBODY WANTS OBI DEAD’
Speaking during the inspection, the minister of works described Obi’s claim as a sign of frustration, adding that no one is interested in harming him.
He said, “Nobody wants Obi dead; it’s not just reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again.”
According to the minister, Obi is worried because he incorrectly assumed the Southeast would remain his exclusive political stronghold after the 2023 election.
“What he is afraid of is because he said south-east is his catchment area because of the last election, which I call accident of history,” Umahi said.
The former Ebonyi governor added that President Bola Tinubu’s key appointments and extensive infrastructure projects in the Southeast have completely altered the region’s political landscape.
“We have come with visible development in the zone, and our people have now agreed with us that we are better off with President Tinubu to complete the good works he is doing for us than playing Artificial Intelligence (AI) kind of politics,” he added.
Additionally, the minister reaffirmed his willingness to discuss with Obi the Tinubu administration’s performance and the advantages of what he called the federal government’s inclusive approach to the southeast.

“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive.”Executive Branch
Additionally, Obi clarified that he was not making direct accusations but simply describing daily experiences of obstruction.
He said, “It’s not an accusation. I know. I get frustration every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal—it is not normal anymore.
