The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against selling, distributing, purchasing, or using unlicensed Menopause capsules, Menofix formula.
Menofix is a hormone-free, vegetarian multivitamin and herbal supplement designed to help women manage physical and hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause.
NAFDAC issued a public alert on X on Tuesday after receiving a complaint regarding the unauthorized marketing and sale of Menofix capsules.
NAFDAC also stated that the drug was unregistered and detrimental to health.
The statement read, “Following investigation by the post marketing surveillance directorate, it was established that the complaint product, Menofix, is not registered with NAFDAC”
“Further review found that the product being marketed differs from similarly named products already registered by the agency.
“Two registered products with a similar name are Menofix herbal capsule (NAFDAC Reg. No. A7-103321L) and Menofix Powder (NAFDAC Reg. No. A7-103342L), both registered under the herbal and nutraceuticals category and manufactured by Gudugudu Herbal Worldwide Enterprises.”
NAFDAC noted that vendors sell the product over the counter, online, and in open retail shops.
In addition, the agency warned that several substances in Menofix have triggered rare reports of liver damage, including hepatitis, elevated liver enzymes, jaundice, and liver failure.
Officials added that regulatory teams are currently tracking down the distribution network to halt sales and secure the market.

The latest warning is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing crackdown on unregistered medicines and health products circulating in the Nigerian market.
In recent months, the agency has intensified surveillance across pharmacies, open drug markets and online platforms, repeatedly cautioning Nigerians against purchasing products that have not undergone regulatory approval.
NAFDAC has previously reported that such products often enter the country through illegal channels and may pose serious health risks because their safety, quality and effectiveness have not been verified.
