The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over allegations that he threatened to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Fadahunsi faced strong backlash after a viral video surfaced showing him allegedly instructing All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters to “kill” Accord Party members found in specific areas of Ilesa during the poll.
The remarks have heightened fears of escalating political violence ahead of the Osun guber election scheduled for August 15.
In an official letter dated August 11, 2026, the police command directed the senator to appear and clarify the context behind the alleged statements made during an APC campaign rally in Ilesa.

‘If you see Accord members’, kill them
Ahead of the state’s August 15 governorship election, Francis Fadahunsi, the senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, had earlier asked his supporters to ‘kill’ members of the Accord Party.
In a video posted to X on Tuesday, the senator, speaking in Yoruba, called on followers to target Accord Party members in the lead-up to the poll.
“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” Fadahunsi said.
“This is a federal government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.

“What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them. Tell them, the cap they are putting on is a bad one, a yellow one.
“So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them.”
‘I was misrepresented’ – Fadahunsi claims
Following backlash, criticism and calls for his arrest, Senator Francis Fadahunsi has refuted accusations of inciting violence ahead of the Osun guber election, maintaining that his comments were misinterpreted in a widely shared social media video.
The Osun East senator stated that portions of his speech were selectively altered to misrepresent his actual message during the political event.
Clarifying his statements, the lawmaker explained that he was addressing reports regarding the killing of party members in Ilesa and other parts of Osun State.
“What I said was that if the alleged killing of our party members by Accord Party thugs does not stop, our party will retaliate.
“I was referring to the continued violence and attacks against our members in Ilesa and other parts of the state,” he said.
Fadahunsi emphasized that his remarks were not a call to violence, but rather an appeal for justice and the protection of human life.

Meanwhile this fresh twist of events ahead of the Osun state elections comes just days after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) froze an Osun State government account sitting with First Bank. It is reportedly used to house and pay state workers’ salaries. The freeze came just ten days before the state’s governorship election on August 15.
Governor Ademola Adeleke had already predicted this would happen when he spoke out days earlier. He alleged that the EFCC planned to freeze Osun State accounts. He also said top officials would also be targeted in a political move. Many dismissed his claims as electioneering, but the documents and account freeze suggest he was right.
