Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that he is prepared to give the Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and other opposition candidates crisis in the forthcoming 2027 election.
Speaking to reporters during an examination of the FCT’s infrastructure projects on Friday in Abuja, Wike made the promise.
The minister reiterated his belief that the nation’s top opposition party is unmatched.
Wike said: “I have told you, when you say we are leading the opposition, I have told you there is no opposition. What do you have? People who are just looking to see if they can stay relevant.
“Who is the opposition leader now? Obviously, it would have been PDP, but because of the crisis we have gone through, you can’t see a strong party that you would call the leading opposition party.
“So, I don’t care; whatever they feel is not my business. I don’t want them to feel well. My job is to make them feel unwell all day because they will have high blood pressure. I think that’s my job, to make them have high blood pressure.”
Speaking further, the FCT minister vowed to ensure that the opposition continues to encounter crisis before the elections.
“I’m not here to make them perform well. And that is what we are doing to them. So, we have to be patient. It does not give me any headache. Everyone understands now what they’re going through, and I’m going to make things even harder for them,” he said.
2027 election already concluded – Wike declares
Wike has stated that the 2027 presidential election is already decided and that President Bola Tinubu’s reelection cannot be prevented.
Additionally, the former governor of Rivers State made fun of Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for attempting to persuade Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, to join the opposition party.
According to Wike, “This election has been concluded and there is nothing anyone can do about it. I don’t know where Dele Momodu will be now.
“Every time, you will see him on TV saying, ‘I was born in Ife,’ thinking that would make Adeleke come to the ADC side.”
Backstory…
Wike’s comments followed a meeting involving Tinubu and Osun State Governor-elect Ademola Adeleke, which he described as part of efforts to rebuild a broader “Rainbow Coalition” of politicians from different parties in support of the President. He predicted that more politicians would join the alignment in the coming weeks.
The minister has repeatedly argued that the opposition has failed to establish a united political structure around a single candidate. Only two days earlier, he described the 2027 election as potentially the easiest election for Tinubu, arguing that opposition parties were even more divided than they were in 2023.
