The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign will be centred on tangible projects and measurable achievements rather than empty political promises.
Wike spoke with journalists after inspecting major road projects in some satellite towns, including the long-awaited Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa Road.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects, noting that the administration had turned infrastructure challenges that had persisted for years into visible developments capable of improving residents’ lives.
“Campaigning is not merely about promises; it is about the actions taken that genuinely affect the lives of the populace,” Wike said.
He added, “The administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made significant contributions to the residents of the FCT. Our team can return home with the assurance that the commitments made have been honoured.”
Speaking specifically about the Bwari-Kubwa Road, Wike said the 14-kilometre project was one that many residents had previously doubted would ever be completed.
He disclosed that the road was expected to be handed over to the FCT Administration by December.
“I have stated that this project will be delivered to us by December. It is now the responsibility of the people here to also express their gratitude to Mr. President for not only making promises but also for fulfilling those promises. Therefore, I am extremely pleased,” he said.
Wike also reflected on his three years in office as FCT minister, expressing appreciation to President Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve.
Although he acknowledged that his tenure had come with several challenges, the minister said he was satisfied with the efforts of his team in addressing key issues across the capital territory.
He pointed to his previous experience in public service, including his time as a local government chairman, Minister of State and Governor of Rivers State, as evidence of his long-standing commitment to governance and public service.
BACKSTORY:
The comments come as the FCT Administration continues to push ahead with major road and infrastructure projects across Abuja and its satellite towns.
Wike has repeatedly highlighted the completion and rehabilitation of key roads as part of the administration’s efforts to improve transportation, connectivity and economic activity within the FCT.
Among the projects inspected by the minister were the Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa Road, which have attracted attention because of their importance to residents in the affected communities.
Wike said the Bwari-Kubwa Road is expected to be handed over to the FCT Administration by December, describing its progress as evidence that previously delayed infrastructure projects can be completed under the current administration.
His remarks also come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum, with supporters of President Bola Tinubu increasingly highlighting projects and policy achievements as part of the case for his re-election.
