Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, announced his resignation on Monday.
In a formal resignation letter dated October 12, 2026, Ogunwuyi confirmed that his departure took effect immediately.
Ogunwuyi, a former member of both the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, is the latest high-profile official to exit the administration, joining a wave of resignations among Governor Makinde’s key aides over the past two months.
Ogunwuyi said, “I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration.
“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State. As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State.
“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read.
Backstory…
Segun Ogunwuyi’s resignation comes as Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration experiences a series of departures and political changes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In August 2026, Funmi Arulogun, Makinde’s Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters, resigned, citing personal and political considerations. Her exit came amid shifting political alignments as politicians began positioning themselves ahead of the next general elections.
The political atmosphere has also been shifting around Makinde’s involvement with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of 2027.
The Oyo State governor recently announced his plan to serve only a single term as president if elected in 2027.
