President Bola Tinubu to skip some APC campaign rallies

2027: Tinubu Faces Backlash Over Hint to Skip Some APC Campaign Rallies

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, President Bola Tinubu has noted that his responsibilities in governance and national financial management may prevent him from participating in every APC campaign rally.

Mr. Tinubu made this remark on Wednesday in Abuja at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

Addressing party stakeholders, the President emphasized that maintaining his focus on executive duties remains essential to fulfilling his obligations as head of state, while campaign representatives concurrently oversee mobilization efforts across state and local government structures.

“Nigeria needs more attention now than ever before. The responsibility of this office does not pause,” he said.

He went on to say that while he would still speak directly to Nigerians, he would not always go with the campaign team to every event.

“So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you; we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” Mr President added.

Tinubu afraid of campaign stress, will use governors to ‘cash out’ votes

Reacting, Dr. Sam Amadi, former head of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, has accused President Bola Tinubu of attempting to evade the rigorous demands of the 2027 electoral campaign trail.

Writing via his X account on Wednesday, Amadi asserted that Tinubu plans to delegate vote-mobilization efforts to state governors, while cautioning that any move to suppress the opposition’s ability to campaign freely could undermine the nation’s democratic integrity.

He shared these observations in response to the President’s indication that governance responsibilities might prevent him from personally visiting every state during the upcoming campaigns.

“Tinubu is very honest here. He will not campaign because he cannot face the stress of a campaign. He will allow the governors to cash out the votes through all means,” he wrote.

Amadi nevertheless urged the governors expected to back Tinubu’s reelection to conduct their activities peacefully and ensure that opposition parties are allowed to campaign without interference.

Expressing concern that the country’s democratic institutions have already suffered significant damage, he cautioned against any further deterioration, particularly regarding potential military involvement in the political process.
