Jigawa Government Imposes 24-Hour Curfew

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, imposed a 24-hour curfew on Friday in response to escalating violence during the first day of the nationwide protests. In a state broadcast, Namadi described the situation as unfortunate and emphasized the need to restore peace and stability.

The governor acknowledged the impact of the curfew on daily life but announced a temporary relaxation from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Friday to allow residents to attend Juma’a prayers at the mosque. The decision came after the protests, initially peaceful, turned violent with reports of destruction and looting. Namadi condemned the violence as unacceptable and contrary to local culture, vowing to work with security agencies to address the unrest and protect lives and property from miscreants and hoodlums
