ADC NEC seek removal of David Mark

ADC Crisis: Chairmen Urge INEC to Sack David Mark, Warn of Mass Protest

The National Executive Committee Chairmen Forum of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Senator David Mark and members of his dissolved Interim National Working Committee from its portal.

The forum threatened to launch a nationwide protest if the commission fails to enforce a court judgment regarding the party’s leadership dispute.

It further demanded that INEC replace their details with those of Nafiu Bala Gombe and other officials recognized by the forum as the legitimate party leadership.

Additionally, the ADC leadership called on the commission to reopen its portal to enable the party to submit its candidates for the 2027 general elections and conduct fresh primaries if necessary.

Addressing reporters in Abuja on Friday, Forum Secretary Kennedy Odion outlined the demands just one day after Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja set aside the party’s Mark-led interim leadership.

Odion stated that the court’s decision nullified all actions taken by the dissolved executive, including the presidential nomination of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the selection of other candidates during conventions and congresses conducted under the interim administration.

He added that the judgment validated the forum’s stance that the party’s constitution contains no provision recognizing an interim leadership structure

“We, the only legally recognised NEC members, accept in its entirety the judgement declaring our own Alhaji Nafiu Bala Gombe the authentic national chairman of the ADC.

“Failure to comply with this latest judgement will leave us no option but to proceed with our planned nationwide protest against the electoral umpire. Nigeria is for all of us. No individual, however highly placed, is above the law,” he said.

Backstory…

Recall that the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership structure on Thursday, which was headed by former Senate President David Mark. The court also invalidated the party’s presidential ticket held by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to judge Peter Lifu, the “Mark-led Caretaker Committee, which conducted the party’s presidential primary that produced Atiku Abubakar as its flag bearer,” is illegal.
