The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has called for partnership with top chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, to unite under the party to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

The call comes amid the ADC’s leadership conflict, which resulted in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denouncing the party’s David Mark-led leadership and the Nafiu Bala Gombe group.

Citing the court of appeals’ March 12 ruling, Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s commissioner for information and voter education, said in a statement on Wednesday that the commission will not interact with the two ADC groups led by Mark and Nafiu Gombe.

INEC declared that while a case was pending before the federal high court, it would not attend congresses, conventions, or meetings of the ADC groupings.

Responding to the developments, James Adeshina, chairman of PRP in Lagos, in a statement on Thursday described the ADC leadership crisis as a threat to opposition cohesion.

“At a time when the nation urgently needs a strong and united front to safeguard democracy, internal crises like the one in ADC only weaken the collective ability of opposition forces to provide credible alternatives,” Adeshina said.

“The consequences are far-reaching: it creates room for unchecked dominance and fuels the growing fear of Nigeria sliding toward a one-party state.”

He claims that the PRP is still a viable alternative free of internal strife, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ADC are dealing with leadership issues that may have an impact on their election objectives.

He remarked that in order to save the nation, political leaders must act boldly and decisively given the current state of the opposition.

According to Adeshina, instead of letting internal conflicts undermine progressive efforts, stakeholders from all parties should start reconsidering their approach as partners in a common effort to save Nigeria rather than as rivals.

“I, therefore, extend a sincere invitation to key figures and stakeholders within ADC and beyond, leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and others, to approach PRP,” he said.

He claims that PRP has functioned without the internal animosity that has afflicted numerous other parties.

According to him, the current ADC problem should not just be viewed as a setback but also as a warning to stakeholders and leaders to put aside party allegiance and adopt a more expansive national agenda.

He suggested that rather than dispersing strengths, it should be a call to consolidate them.

“To the leaders affected, this is not about abandoning your ideals—it is about preserving them in a more viable structure,” Adeshina said.

“It is about ensuring that your vision for Nigeria does not get lost in internal conflicts or political fragmentation.

“History will not remember the parties we defended—it will remember the country we saved.

“The time to act is now. The opportunity to unite is here. And the platform that offers stability, legacy, and direction remains the PRP. Let us come together—before it is too late.”

“We encourage opposition leaders to rescue Nigeria by joining PRP, a party existing for 47 years with strong ideology and unity,” he said.

Adeshina further expressed hope about the party’s electoral chances, pointing out that if opposition forces band together behind its platform, PRP might win both the Lagos state governorship and the 2027 presidential election.
