Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reaffirmed legislative and political backing for the creation of Anioma state.
At the All Progressives conference (APC) south-south zonal conference in Asaba, Delta state, on Wednesday, Akpabio addressed party members.
The president of the Senate stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is still dedicated to the project.

According to Akpabio, if Anioma is established, Warri will be the capital of the new Delta state.
According to him, Warri already possesses important infrastructure, such as a stadium, a seaport, government buildings, large oil corporations, and an airport.
Attendees included other political figures and party members from throughout the south-south region.
Akpabio stated that the idea represents a long-standing goal based on equity, administrative effectiveness, and balanced growth, characterising the struggle for Anioma state as historically justified.

The Senate President stated that legislative attention has continued to be given to the initiative, which is supported by Senator Ned Nwoko of Delta North.
The proposal is one of the 10th Senate’s top priorities, Akpabio continued, adding that the establishment of Anioma State would have administrative and socioeconomic advantages.
According to the senate president, the reorganisation will encourage decentralisation and divide Delta State into two independent entities.
“Anioma state will be created, with Asaba as its capital. The senate fully supports the initiative spearheaded by Senator Ned Nwoko,” he said.
