Gov Alia places new ban on Benue traditional rulers from issuing mining permits
Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, has warned traditional leaders across the state to cease approving mining projects on their lands without first obtaining permission from the government.

The governor emphasised that the government “will not tolerate any form of illegal mining in any part of the state and traditional rulers must desist from issuing mining permits in any part of the state without the approval of government” during a Thanksgiving celebration for his Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) appointees, which is considered to be one of Benue’s major mining hubs.

He further stressed that anyone caught defying this directive would face prosecution.

Governor Alia declared his administration’s dedication to enhancing Kwande LGA’s infrastructure, revealing plans to construct additional roads to make it simpler for people to travel and transport agricultural products.

Regarding security, the governor pledged to keep working with local and federal authorities to expel armed herders from Benue state.

He said that people who support criminals or plot attacks on villages with the help of violent herders would “be treated as enemies.”

The Benue state governor added that “politics should be centred on development and the welfare of the people” and thanked President Bola Tinubu for “his support and love for Benue people.”
