Alphonsus Eba, who was removed on Thursday morning as chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State by the 18 chapter chairmen and the state working committee, has dismissed the action, describing it as a joke taken too far.

He insisted the move is “illegal” and will not stand, adding that God will soon vindicate him.
“My purported impeachment is a joke taken too far. God will speak at the appropriate time. I won’t say more than this for now.”
30 of the 32 members of SEC voted to impeach Alphonsus Eba as the Chairman of the APC in the state, following alleged misappropriation of funds, high-handedness, and non-payment of stipends to party officials across chapters and wards.
Chapter chairmen, secretaries, and vice chairmen of the party had earlier passed vote if no confidence against Alphonsus Eba, who nicknames himself as Political Evangelist.
The state working committee, which has control of the state party secretariat, said the impeachment is ‘done and dusted’, and have immediately appointed Ntufam Ekum Ojogu as its acting chairman.

Upon his unveiling at the APC Secretariat in Calabar, Ojogu pledged to stabilise the party and work with its stakeholders to strengthen grassroots structures.
” I am deeply humbled and honoured to stand before you today as the Acting Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cross River State.
“Your solidarity, loyalty, and unflinching support during this transition have not gone unnoticed. The unity we display today is a testament to the resilience and love we share for our party and for Cross River State. We will work day and night to deliver dividends of democracy to our people.”
Ojogu maintained that Alphonsus Eba’s removal followed a vote of no confidence passed by party leaders, adding that the decision was aimed at restoring order and accountability.
“I thank every member who stood firm for due process and party stability. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Chapter Chairmen of the 18 Local Government Areas. Your dedication to the grassroots has kept the party’s flame alive,” he stated.
Ojogu commended chapter chairmen across the 18 local government areas, ward executives, polling unit coordinators and volunteers for keeping the party’s structures active.
