Start amending Constitution to create State Police – Tinubu tells Senate

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday instructed the National Assembly to start fashioning out modalities to amend the constitution in order to incorporate State Police.

According to Mr. president, this will help combat insurgency and give the populace more security.

Speaking to the senators during Wednesday’s interfaith/iftar fast breaking ceremony at the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu made this statement.

Tinubu Signs New Electoral Law Ahead of 2027 Elections

Recall that all 36 of the nation’s governors have voiced their opinions regarding the ongoing debate over state police. The governors approved the establishment of state police earlier in 2024 after submitting their recommendations to the National Economic Council(NEC).

Speaking, Tinubu said, “Indivisible commitment to humanity is what we gather here to express to one another. Tonight, we are committed to the Nigeria entity succeeding, we are committed to make law for the welfare prosperity of the country.

“Nigeria is in an extremely bigger challenge. We are facing terrorism, banditry, insurgency, but you never fail to make a right response to this course. What I want to ask for tonight is for you to start thinking how best, to amend the Constitution to incorporate the state police.
