Amnesty International has described the recent mass abduction in Zamfara State as a stark example of what it called Nigeria’s “forgotten conflict,” warning that rural communities remain exposed to repeated attacks with little to no protection.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, the rights group reacted to the Thursday night нападe on Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji villages, where gunmen reportedly abducted around 150 people.

According to Amnesty International, the majority of those taken are women and children.

The organisation added that residents of the affected communities say they feel abandoned and are forced to live in constant fear of further attacks. One villager described the situation as “living on edge every day,” noting that fear and uncertainty now define daily life.

Amnesty International stressed that the incident reflects a wider pattern of violence that continues to be largely overlooked.

The Amnesty International stated that “the Nigerian authorities have repeatedly claimed to be tackling the situation, but the mounting death toll and spate of mass abductions tell a different story”.
