Anthony Joshua’s Driver, Adeniyi Kayode’s court case, has been adjourned to 25th February
The trial of 46-year-old Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road accident linked to heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, has been adjourned to February 25, 2026. The tragic incident reportedly claimed the lives of two of Anthony Joshua’s friends, making the Anthony Joshua accident case one of national interest.

Kayode was arraigned before the Sagamu Magistrate Court on January 2, with Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun presiding over the matter. The Anthony Joshua accident case has continued to attract attention as legal proceedings unfold in Ogun State.
The defendant was charged on a four-count charge which includes dangerous driving causing death, contrary to Section 5 1 of the Federal Highway Act Cap F 135 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 as applicable in Ogun State. The charges form the core of the Anthony Joshua accident case currently before the court.

“Reckless and Negligent Driving, contrary to Section 61 of the same Act. Driving without due care and attention, causing bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7 1 of the Act, and driving without a valid national driver’s license, contrary to Section 10 1 of the Federal Highway Act.
The case could not proceed fully after the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, informed the court that although four witnesses were listed, only three were present. This development led to a request that affected the progress of the Anthony Joshua accident case.

Richard Nigiwe applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to duplicate the case file to the office of the Attorney General of the state through the Department of Public Prosecution for advice. He said the request was made in the interest of justice in the Anthony Joshua accident case.
The application was initially opposed by the defense counsel, Abiodun Olalekan, who told the court that the defense was ready to continue with the trial. Despite the objection, the court considered the request carefully.
In her ruling, Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun granted the application for adjournment and fixed February 25 for further hearing. The Anthony Joshua accident case is expected to resume on that date as legal arguments and witness testimonies continue.
