The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has shifted the collation of results for its presidential primary election.

Ikechi Emenike, chairman of the ADC presidential primary election committee, announced the development late Tuesday night after over than four hours of result collation at Transcorp Hilton Hotel congress hall, Abuja.

Recall that ADC conducted a nationwide direct primary on Monday to select its choice candidate for the 2027 presidential election, with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, former managing director of the defunct FSB International Bank, and Rotimi Amaechi as the main contenders.

Emenike also said collation will continue at 8 p.m. tonight, explaining that the delay was to allow Muslim party members to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.

Meanwhile, the figures so far show that Hayatu-Deen received 156,075 votes, Amaechi polled 248,455, and Atiku secured 1,390,276 votes.

Abubakar is leading in 22 states — Kebbi, Anambra, Abia, Ekiti, Ondo, Gombe, Oyo, Imo, Yobe, Nasarawa, Enugu, Benue, Osun, Kogi, Taraba, Kano, Adamawa, Sokoto, Zamfara, Borno, Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Meanwhile, Amaechi currently leads in Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom states.

However, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the results, citing alleged irregularities and voter disenfranchisement, which further deepened the controversy surrounding the exercise.

BACKSTORY…

Former minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi has rejected the ADC presidential primary result, citing irregularities.

In a statement on his official X handle, he wrote, “Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced“.

Similarly, Hayatu-Deen has also rejected the result.
