Reports indicate that the blaze swept through the popular Singer Market, destroying numerous shops in the Gidan Glass section of the busy commercial hub located along Ado Bayero Road near Murtala Muhammad Way.
The incident, which happened on Saturday evening, is the second fire outbreak recorded at the market within less than two weeks.

Reacting to the incident, Bashir Ahmad took to his X handle on Saturday to express sorrow over the incident and calling for improved safety measures in markets across the state.

“I am truly devastated by the fire outbreak incident at the Singer Market, one of the largest and most important commodity markets in the North, located in Kano.
“Reports indicate that the severe fire started in the afternoon and eyewitnesses have described it as massive, fast-spreading and still raging hours later.
Bashir Ahmad added: “This unfortunate incident once again highlights the urgent need for authorities in Kano to comprehensively overhaul safety measures across our markets.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the traders and families affected by this tragic incident.”
