The Benue State Government has directed political appointees intending to contest for elective positions to formally declare their ambitions and resign from their current appointments.

The directive was endorsed by Deputy Governor Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, who urged all affected officials to comply promptly.
The move comes amid intensified political activity and growing indications of interest in various elective offices ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Benue government stated that all affected appointees must forward written notices declaring the offices they intend to contest, together with their resignation letters, to the Office of the Deputy Governor.

The deadline for submission is Thursday, December 18, 2025.
According to the statement, all documents received will be forwarded to Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormen Alia for review and further action as deemed necessary.
The administration explained that the directive is designed to promote discipline, openness, and sustained concentration within government, as it pursues its policy and development objectives.
