Benue State House of Assembly Approves Key Bills to Boost Infrastructure and Regulation

The Benue State House of Assembly has passed four major bills aimed at boosting infrastructure, improving resource management, and strengthening regulatory systems across the state.

The bills were approved after scaling third reading during plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Alfred Emberga.

One of the key legislations establishes the Benue State Electricity/Power Management Agency (BESMA), which is expected to create a more structured approach to electricity management and distribution statewide.

Lawmakers also passed a bill on road traffic administration, with provisions covering traffic control and vehicle inspection to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with proper vehicle standards.

Another approved bill provides for the establishment of the Benue State Forestry, Mines and Solid Minerals Management Commission, which will regulate and oversee the exploitation of the state’s natural resources.

In addition, the Benue State  House of Assembly approved a bill creating the Benue State Road Maintenance Agency (BENROMA), aimed at improving road maintenance and driving infrastructure development across the state.

During the session, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Bem Mela, to conduct the third reading of the bills in line with legislative procedures. Following the readings, Emberga confirmed that all four bills had satisfied the required processes and were duly passed by the Benue State house of Assembly.
