Phrank Shaibu, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has countered comments made by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, who recently stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu maintains a political lead over opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections.

Keyamo, in a post on his verified X account on Sunday, highlighted Tinubu’s political rise, noting that he transitioned from a long history in opposition politics to becoming Nigeria’s president.
Responding via his handle @phrankangel, Phrank Shaibu rejected the argument, insisting that past political achievements cannot substitute for effective governance.
Phrank Shaibu argued that true leadership should be assessed based on performance in office rather than political history.
PhrankShaibu further stated that claims of Tinubu’s political “dominance” reflect a weak narrative, stressing that Nigerians are more concerned about worsening economic hardship and insecurity than past electoral victories. He pointed to rising hunger, increasing cost of living, and ongoing security challenges as major public concerns.
According to him, being politically “ahead” should be reflected in improved living conditions, not just political messaging.
He added that current realities suggest a government struggling to effectively address the country’s pressing challenges.

In a follow-up statement, Shaibu intensified his criticism, arguing that political strategy is meaningless if it does not improve livelihoods, strengthen security, or restore dignity to citizens. He concluded that no amount of rhetoric can overshadow the difficulties many Nigerians continue to face.
“Today, Nigerians are not impressed by recycled opposition tactics dressed up as brilliance; they are confronted daily by empty pockets, unsafe communities, and a government that appears disconnected from their pain.
“No amount of propaganda can mask a reality that is this loud,” he said.
