Bold Promise: Peter Obi Vows to End All Forms of Criminality as President

Presidential hopeful of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has vowed that he will not tolerate any form of criminal activity if elected President in 2027.

Peter Obi made the statement while describing fuel subsidy as an “organized crime against Nigeria.”

Speaking on Trust TV, the former presidential candidate argued that Nigeria’s fuel consumption figures are unrealistic compared to countries of similar size, citing Pakistan as an example.

He said:

“Subsidy is organized crime, and I will not allow any form of criminality as President of Nigeria. The fuel consumption figures being reported cannot be correct; there is empirical evidence.

“We are roughly the same size as Pakistan. They have more roads, and possibly more vehicles, yet their fuel consumption is about a third of ours. So where is the rest going?”

During the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi and other candidates had pledged to end fuel subsidy. However, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu later announced its immediate removal during his inauguration at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
