A Federal High Court in Ibadan has reportedly nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention that held in the Oyo State capital on November 15, 2025, declaring it invalid.
The court’s decision also prohibited members of the National Working Committee (NWC), which is led by Tanimu Turaki, from posing as party national officers.

The court ruled on Friday that, until a legitimate national convention is convened, the Caretaker Committee, which is headed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Mohammed Abdulrahman, is the only recognised leadership of the PDP.
The judge further declared that the PDP could only operate through the caretaker committee until a proper and lawful national convention was held.
Responding to the judgment, counsel to the PDP Caretaker Committee, Ferdinand Oshioke Orbih, described the ruling as a boost for Nigeria’s democracy.

Mr Orbih, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said that the claimants had sought judicial endorsement of what he described as an illegal convention, but the court firmly rejected the move.
He emphasised that all procedures and frameworks resulting from the convention had been totally revoked and that the ruling upheld the principle that the rule of law must take precedence before political gain.

After months of legal and political struggles over control of its national organisation, the decision represents a major turning point in the largest opposition party’s internal strife.
Following its poor showing in the 2023 general elections, the PDP has been embroiled in a leadership struggle, with several groups vying for control of the country.
