Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has reportedly been taken into custody by Nigerian police.
Sowore, who is a frontline agitator for Kanu’s release from detention, was on Thursday accosted by the security operatives who insisted he must move with them to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command.
When asked what his offence was, one of the officers explained that they were executing an order from the Commissioner of Police.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong disclosed this in a post on X, accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the police of weakening Nigeria’s legal system.
He wrote: “The arrest of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja moments ago is preposterous.
“The police and the Tinubu regime are making a mockery of our judicial system. He should be freed immediately. Stop the shenanigans.”
His arrest comes shorlty after Sowore had earlier posted on Facebook that he was meeting with Kanu Agabi, the lead lawyer for Nnamdi Kanu, at the Federal High Court.
He claimed that Agabi revealed that his team would be leaving the case, leaving Kanu to proceed with his trial unrepresented.
Recall that Sowore led a protest in Abuja on Monday, demanding for the release of the detained IPO leader. A protest which led to the arrest of 12 demonstrators including Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel, and one of his lawyers, Alloy Ejimakor, were arrested and subsequently remanded at the Kuje prison.
In the First Information Report (FIR) submitted to a Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje, police claimed that the defendants disrupted the free flow of traffic and screamed war songs during the #FreeNnamdiKanu demonstration, which they claimed was conducted in defiance of a court order.
It claimed that they violated sections 152, 114, and 113 of the Penal Code Law by engaging in criminal conspiracy, inciting disruption, and disturbing public peace.
