The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away at the age of 91. The highly revered monarch died on Sunday.
Born on May 10, 1934, Oba Adetona served as the traditional ruler of the Ijebu Kingdom, one of the most prominent and respected traditional states in Nigeria, until his demise.
Awujale was installed as king on 2 April 1960, making him one of the longest-reigning monarchs in Nigeria. He was a member of the House of Anikinaiya.
Awujale death came just hours after the announcement of the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, his long-time friend.
Buhari died in a clinic in London, United Kingdom, after battling illness for some time.
