The federal government has declared a two-day public’s holiday ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. The Government has declared Monday March 31 and Tuesday April 1 respectively, for the celebration.
The minister of interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made this announcement in a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s permanent secretary on Wednesday March 26.

The minister offered his congratulations to the Muslim community on completing the Ramadan fasting period. He also encouraged Muslims to “embrace the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace, emphasizing the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in building a harmonious society.”
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to utilize the festive period as an opportunity to pray for the nation’s peace, stability, and prosperity. Furthermore, he expressed his hope that Eid al-Fitr would foster unity and cooperation among people of different religions and ethnicities.
The minister also advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and safely while showing kindness and charity to the less privileged, aligning with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid.

“On behalf of the Federal Government, he extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful and prayed that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone,” the statement read.
Eid al-Fitr, an Islamic festival marking the end of Ramadan, is a significant occasion. Nigerian Muslims joined their fellow Muslims worldwide in observing the blessed month, which began on March 1, 2025, and is expected to conclude on March 29, 2025. The celebration is scheduled to take place on the 30th.
