FG committee to meet on minimum wage reports today.
The 37-member federal government committee on Minimum Wage will convene today in Abuja to review final reports from subcommittees regarding the new national minimum wage. Discussions will also cover the drafting of the final report for submission to the federal executive council (FEC), along with considerations on sanctions for violations and reporting procedures. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recommended a new minimum wage of N615,000, based on a detailed cost-of-living analysis, and stressed the need for timely implementation. However, delays in negotiations have pushed the timeline for implementation, with the federal government indicating the necessity of a supplementary budget for execution.
