Plateau Governor Mutfwang criticizes President Buhari, alleging that he is jeopardizing Nigeria’s future by selling it off.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang attributed the current economic challenges in Nigeria to former President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him of selling the nation’s future.
Mutfwang made these remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of 22 Special Advisers and heads of government agencies appointed by his administration. He emphasized the need to prioritize governance over politics, noting that the country’s economy was left in a dire state for President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Mutfwang urged Nigerians to face the truth about the inherited economic situation, which he described as worse than that of 1999.
The current government inherited an economy where approximately N30 trillion was simply printed and distributed. Additionally, crude oil that hasn’t even been extracted yet was sold in advance. This irresponsible handling of resources led to the devaluation of the naira and sparked unrest, with reports of food interception along transportation routes. Fortunately, Plateau State seems to have a relatively stable food supply compared to other regions. However, the administration recognizes the importance of proactive measures, hence the establishment of a special agro-processing zone in Barkin Ladi LGA. This initiative, in partnership with the African Development Bank with an investment of $300 million, aims to bolster food security and stimulate economic growth.
“This is a serious matter.
The governor urged the newly appointed officials to rise to the occasion and assist his administration in addressing the prevailing challenges for the benefit of the citizens. He emphasized that some of the appointees were unfamiliar to him, but their qualifications deemed them suitable for their roles. He stressed the importance of seeking innovative ways to generate revenue, as there are limited funds available for distribution. The focus should be on sourcing funds for investment and development to foster wealth creation. Additionally, those overseeing constituencies were tasked with aligning their efforts with government initiatives to ensure cohesive progress. The governor emphasized the need to put an end to distractions and violence, particularly referencing the bloodshed experienced in Plateau State, urging collective action towards peace and prosperity.
