Igho Ubiribo, a 43-year-old Nigerian-British businessman and social media personality, died after undergoing a penis enlargement procedure while vacationing in Thailand.
According to the Daily Mail on Saturday, a UK coroner determined that the cosmetic procedure caused a fatal pulmonary embolism.
Ubiribo, also known as “Tiny,” “Denisi” and “Ego,” reportedly chose to undergo the procedure while enjoying a luxury holiday in Bangkok with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen.
The Daily Mail reported that Ubiribo received an injection containing 40 millilitres of lidocaine and hyaluronic acid into his penis at an unidentified clinic in Thailand in March.
According to reports, Igho Ubiribo and his wife received a massage at their Marriott hotel after the procedure. He complained of chest pain during the massage before fainting twice.
Paramedics took him to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he initially responded to questions. During an inquest at Inner West London Coroners’ Court, Allen told medical professionals that her husband had recently received penile filler injections.
Doctors suspected that Ubiribo had suffered a pulmonary embolism and recommended a CT scan. However, he reportedly lost consciousness before doctors could complete the scan.
Ubiribo died early on March 6.
Postmortem findings
Following his death, a UK postmortem examination found cellular debris in his lungs that matched the hyaluronic acid used in the penile filler.
Pathologist John du Parcq told the court that the material found in Ubiribo’s lungs matched the compound used during the cosmetic procedure.
He said the findings matched those from an autopsy conducted in Thailand and were consistent with a pulmonary embolism.
Coroner Jean Harkin later ruled that Igho Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic surgery.
A pulmonary embolism occurs when a blocked blood vessel restricts blood flow to the lungs. The condition can prove fatal because it can suddenly reduce blood flow to the lungs and place significant strain on the heart.
