China has urged the international community to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty following a US threat of military action to combat alleged Christian genocide in the nation.
The Chinese government reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and praised it for steering the nation towards a growth path that was appropriate for its unique circumstances.

Mao Ning, the spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, made this statement at a press conference on Tuesday in Beijing, according to a story taken from the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
She said, “As Nigeria’s strategic partner, China opposes any attempt by foreign powers to use religion or human rights as a pretext to meddle in another country’s internal affairs or impose sanctions and military threats.”

Following growing allegations of Christian persecution in Nigeria, the United States recently threatened to take military action against the country.

According to previous reports, Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has threatened to send military troops to Nigeria if the country’s claimed Christian genocide is not halted.
However, key political figures in the APC led administration have repeatedly denied the claims.
