CITAD issues urgent warning: Be vigilant, report all GBV cases immediately

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has called on the public to stay alert and report all cases of gender-based violence (GBV) to relevant authorities for prompt action.

The appeal was made by Sani Sa’idu Muhammad, Project Officer of the CITAD Male Feminist Network, an initiative supported by the Ford Foundation through the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD), during a Public Enlightenment Forum held in Dutse.

Muhammad explained that the CITAD forum was organised to raise awareness about the dangers of gender-based violence and to propose practical solutions aimed at reducing the prevalence of the problem.

According to him, “we have noticed the increase on Gender Based Violence GBV, including, Rape, Modern Slavery and human trafficking among others in Jigawa State, This prompted our campaign in order to mitigate the  problem” he said.

Muhammad explained that, the war against the GBV requires collective effort from all stakeholders through reporting of the cases to the relevant authorities.

“Issues of GBV can not be hidden, because by hiding the case is like giving the perpetrators opportunity to continue with the act.

“The problem of GBV can be reduced by 90% of the cases is being reported to the security agencies and other Civil societies working on the GBV.”

He said the public can also report any case of GBV through an application purposely developed as “Reportrix” for appropriate action.
