Class Diaspora Unveils EdTech Platform to Link Nigerian Teachers with Diaspora Families

In a visionary move, Class Diaspora, founded by Mr Charles Iloka, has launched an innovative education-technology platform designed to connect Nigerian teachers with parents and children living abroad. The aim is not only to improve educational outcomes but also to nurture cultural roots among the diaspora.

Bridging the Education Gap for Diaspora Children

According to Iloka, the inspiration for Class Diaspora came from watching how Nigerian families overseas struggle to find trustworthy tutors — particularly for subjects that help children maintain a connection with their heritage. “Most of the kids abroad are not learning Nigerian languages, so there was a gap and a demand,” he explained in a recent interview. The platform was born to fill that gap, offering a space where parents abroad can directly engage qualified teachers back home.

This isn’t just about academic performance: Iloka emphasises that the platform helps diaspora children stay culturally grounded. Through regular classes with Nigerian educators, they can remain in touch with their roots — learning language, traditions, and other subjects that resonate with their identity.

How the Platform Works

Class Diaspora currently operates as a web-based system, built using modern, reliable technologies. However, the team plans to expand soon with dedicated iOS and Android apps, making it even more accessible for busy families and teachers alike.

On the platform, parents can connect with verified Nigerian teachers in real time, enabling consistent collaboration instead of the typical ad-hoc tutoring sessions. Iloka describes the system as more than a marketplace: it’s a community. Teachers can access a resource portal featuring lesson plans, mentoring programmes, and peer reviews. There’s also a mentorship structure, meaning more experienced educators support newcomers, creating a strong professional network.

Iloka is ambitious: he wants to grow Class Diaspora into the largest global network of African educators, where high-quality teaching meets global demand. In his words, the ultimate goal is “a system that shapes the ecosystem where teaching and global demand meet seamlessly.”

Already, more than 100 teachers have been registered and verified on the platform, according to Iloka. Their participation, he notes, is critical: it helps preserve culture, language, and educational continuity across generations.

Why This Is a Big Deal

  1. Cultural Preservation Through Education
Class Diaspora is not just providing tutoring — it’s helping children in the diaspora remain connected to their Nigerian identity. By learning Nigerian languages, culture, and values through trusted teachers, kids abroad can feel a stronger bond with their roots.
  2. Economic Opportunity for Nigerian Teachers
For educators in Nigeria, this is more than a classroom — it’s a chance to earn from a global audience. Iloka emphasises that the platform helps teachers monetise their skills through technology, providing a steady and meaningful income stream.
  3. Quality Assurance & Trust
By verifying teachers and offering a structured community, Class Diaspora builds trust. Parents know they are working with genuine, qualified professionals — not just random tutors — while teachers benefit from accountability and peer support.
  4. Scalable Vision
While Class Diaspora is already off the ground, its future roadmap is bold. The introduction of mobile apps will broaden accessibility. And by building a spacious community of teachers, the platform can scale sustainably and support more families around the world.

The Road Ahead

Iloka encourages both diaspora parents and teachers in Nigeria to join and leverage the platform — for the preservation of culture, language, and learning continuity. He believes that with active involvement, the partnership between parents abroad and educators in Nigeria can shape a generation that is both globally minded and firmly rooted in their heritage.

As Class Diaspora grows, it may well reshape how education is delivered between home and abroad — not just as a service, but as a bridge for culture, identity, and community.
