Leke Abejide, the sole member of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has predicted that the opposition coalition built around the party will collapse completely by September.

He made this statement on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief program.

Abejide, the representative for Kogi State’s Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, claimed that the coalition’s demise was imminent after it failed to win even one seat in the August 16 by-elections.

“The coalition collapsed last Saturday; across the country, they could not even win one seat. That was the beginning of the end. By early next month, the coalition will collapse completely,” Abejide said.

He strongly emphasized that the coalition’s attempt to “hijack” the ADC would not succeed, stressing that he remained the “landlord” of the party.

“I didn’t establish the party, but I am the one who kept it alive. I have never defected to a big party. I used the ADC to contest all my elections and also brought others into both the National Assembly and state assembly,” he added.

Noting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi were never affiliated with the ADC, the legislator contended that the key players spearheading the coalition have no affiliation with the party.

He emphasised that while both former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and former Senate President David Mark have joined the ADC, neither of them is a party leader.

Recall that ahead of the general elections in 2027, the coalition had endorsed the ADC as its platform in July, designating Aregbesola as national secretary and David Mark as interim chairman.

Former Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Senator Dino Melaye, Solomon Dalong, the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, and publisher Dele Momodu are among its members.

The coalition was further backlashed by Abejide as a group of “selfish politicians” who had no real intentions for Nigeria, calling their usage of the ADC for 2027 a “daydream.
