Breaking News: Court frees Fayose, discharge money laundering trial

    The former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, was cleared of all charges in his lengthy money laundering case against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday morning by a Federal High Court in Lagos.

    The court effectively decided that the prosecution had not proven a sufficient case against Fayose to support a further defence, upholding his no-case motion.

    Former Ekiti state governor

    While he was governor, Fayose was on trial for charges that included fraud and money laundering. However, the court determined that the EFCC’s evidence was insufficient to support the allegations after years of legal battles.

    In Port Harcourt, a medical doctor is charged by the EFCC with alleged N39.1 million visa fraud.

    This is coming just six days after the scheduled ruling on the no-case submission filed by former Ekiti State Governor was stalled on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, as a result of the absence of the presiding judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke.

    Justice Aneke was expected to deliver a ruling on whether Fayose and his co-defendant, Spotless Investment Limited, had a case to answer in the N6.9 billion money laundering trial instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
