Justice for Offa as court confirms death sentence for five robbery convicts.

Using evidence that Sonabari, who was described in court as a native doctor, made the charm that was allegedly used in the police officer’s murder, Aprioku ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The court ordered that the four individuals “be hanged on their neck until they are confirmed dead”.

Acquitted of the four-count accusation, the third defendant was released, while the sixth defendant, Samuel Nwadinma, received a sentence of three years in jail for conspiracy.

The Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara, set a N100 million reward for the murder of Gift Okpara, often known as 2Baba, and his gang a few days after it happened.

Officers raided a camp connected to 2Baba on February 17, 2024. Although he and his gang managed to flee amid a gunfight, the command later stated that intelligence reports later verified his death after he lost consciousness and attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The Rivers police command declared in June 2025 that two suspected cultists had been arrested in relation to the murder.
