Deadly Love Triangle: SA Cop Gets Double Life Sentence
A South African policewoman found guilty of k!lling her police officer husband and family friend has been sentenced to double life imprisonment.
Ntombizodwa Ntinga was, on Friday, sentenced in the Mtubatuba High Court for m8rdering her husband, 49-year-old Warrant Officer Nkosinathi Ntinga, and their family friend, 34-year-old Mpendulo Mdluli, an SAPS Administrative clerk.
Statement from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), revealed that Ntinga’s co-accused, aged 22 years, Samkelo Mpanza, was also jailed.

“The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) High Court in Mtubatuba sentenced Ntombizodwa Gertrude Ntinga (Ntombizodwa) to double life imprisonment and Samkelo Ncamisa Mpanza to 25 years direct imprisonment for kidnapping, robbery, and m8rder, respectively, of South African Police Service (SAPS) Warrant Officer, Nkosinathi Protus Ntinga, and SAPS Administration Clerk, Mpendulo Mdluli,” the statement read.
“The crimes were committed in the Umqondo area of KwaMbonambi during August 2023, and Ntombizodwa was a SAPS Sergeant, who was married to Ntinga.
“They lived together and were stationed at the KwaMbonambi SAPS. Mdluli is a friend to Ntinga who is stationed at Ntambanana SAPS. Ntombizodwa and Ntinga had a strained relationship and she was involved in an extra-marital relationship with a person named ‘Khoza.
“She told ‘Khoza’ that Ntinga was abusing her physically, and thus the decision was taken to have him k!lled. Then they procured the assistance of Mpanza and were to use two firearms to carry out their plan.
“On 01 August 2023, the assailants hired a motor vehicle and went to Ntinga’s house, where Ntombizodwa and Mdluli were present. They accosted them at gunpoint, tied them with cable ties and took their cell phones. They also took the service pistols belonging to Ntinga and Ntombizodwa.
“They abducted Ntinga and Mdluli, loading them into Mdluli’s motor vehicle. They took the men to a nearby sugarcane field, where Ntinga was killed by a fatal shot and Mdluli received severe blows.
– Ntombizodwa was left behind at the house and she went to the neighbours for assistance. The SAPS later found Mdluli’s vehicle that was abandoned not very far from it with Ntinga’s body.
– Unfortunately, Mdluli was found alive on the roadside with head injuries. He was taken to a hospital in Durban but succumbed to his injuries a few days later. Mpanza and Ntombizodwa were subsequently arrested.
The state led by Adv. Pretty-Girl Thobile Ntsele has presented evidence on cellphone downloads emanating from the digital forensic investigation as well as testimonies of eyewitnesses under Section 204.
“The evidence from the vehicle tracker and testimonies from various SAPS officials who dealt with the matter further strengthened the state’s case.
“During the court proceedings, Adv. Ntsele also submitted the Victim Impact Statements prepared by Court Preparation Officer Sthe Cebekhulu with the assistance of family members of the deceased.
“According to her statement, the mother of Ntinga expressed that she was in pain and disbelief that the woman who lived with her son caused his death.
“In her letter, Mdluli’s wife stated that she was shattered after his death, as their marriage had taken place just two months prior (June 2023).
“Ntombizodwa was sentenced to life imprisonment for each of the two murders, or a total of life imprisonment, and an additional fifteen years for robbery, plus five years for each of the two counts of kidnapping, all to be served concurrently, thus life imprisonment is the effective sentence.

“With respect to Mpanza, the sentence he was given is effectively for murder-25 years for each murder; 14 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and four years for each kidnapping. This will be served effectively as 25 years imprisonment.
“Both were declared unfit to possess a firearm.”
“This sentence is a welcomed success by the NPA. Along with partners in the justice cluster, we will continue to pursue justice for the victims of crime.”
