The Nigerian military has confirmed the series of recent attacks on its bases in Borno state that has left dozens killed with other injured but reassures citizens of its capacity to subdue the terrorists.
Insurgents from ISWAP and Boko Haram carried out many attacks on Monday and Tuesday, according to reports.
At a press conference in Maiduguri on Tuesday, AE Abubakar, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the incidences.

Army Major-General Mr. Abubakar stated that forces battled the militants in Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area, but the attacks on Dikwa and Gajiram were unsuccessful.
During the briefing, the theatre commander reported attacks on three military bases, including the killing of four soldiers in Rann.
While assuring the public of the military’s commitment to eradicate terrorism in the region, he noted that the recent instances are not symptomatic of a resurrection of the militants to their former strength.

One of the main causes of the resurgence of attacks, according to Mr. Abubakar, is the worsening security situation in the larger Sahel region.
“In the last two months, we have been re-strategising and reorganizing. The Chief of Army Staff was here just a week ago, and several changes have been made in the theatre. I am one of such changes, having just taken over command three weeks ago.
“Additional platforms and personnel are being inducted into the theatre. What the terrorists have resorted to doing is carrying out multi-pronged attacks on several isolated and vulnerable deployments and using it as propaganda, which is why we are also reviewing our deployments. Yesterday alone, there were attacks in Rann, Dikwa, and Gajiram. All these attacks were defeated, apart from Rann, where they succeeded in penetrating to an extent, leading to the loss of four personnel,” the theatre commander said.

Reiterating the necessity for residents to actively support the military in locating and capturing rebels, he stressed that security is a shared duty.
Meanwhile, he Northern Patriots for Security and Development, NPSD has condemned the attacks on military bases in Borno, further calling for the immediate resignation of Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru over claims of inability to tackle terrorism and insecurity.
